Color

The jig that fills a cooler. 1/16 oz, hand poured and hand painted in Louisiana, on a premium Mustad black nickel hook. Built for Sac-A-Lait, bream, and anything else that'll fit one in its mouth.

Everything about this jig is made under one roof — the pour, the paint, the finish. No factory blanks bought in bulk and relabeled. That's why the hook is sticky-sharp out of the package and the paint doesn't chip off on the third fish.

How to fish it

  • Tight-line the cypress — drop it beside the trunk and hold it still. Watch your line, not your rod tip.
  • Under a cork — set it 18 to 24 inches under a Speck-A-Nater and pop it through brush tops.
  • Cast and swim — slow steady retrieve over grass edges and boat docks.
  • Tip it — add a minnow or a small soft plastic when the bite gets tough.

Picking colors

Water color decides the jig, not the season. Rule of thumb after 47 years on this water:

  • Muddy or stained — go loud. Firetiger, chartreuse, orange.
  • Stained to fair — Monkey Milk, June Bug, black/chartreuse.
  • Clear water — go natural. Pearl White, Grey/Grey, Silver White.

Conditions change hour to hour on these lakes, which is why most folks carry three or four colors rather than betting the day on one.
