Cobra Floater

Three baits in one bag. Jerk it, glide it, or crawl it — the Cobra Floater fishes however the day tells you to fish it.

Rigged weightless on a 2/0 light wire hook, it sits up top for a few seconds, then starts a slow, hanging fall. That slow descent is the whole trick — the bait stays in the strike zone longer, and fish get time to commit instead of swiping at something dropping like a rock.

Put it on a shaky head and it does something else entirely. When it hits bottom, the tail stands straight up and quivers on slack line. Nose down, tail up, waving at everything that swims past.

Four ways to rig it

• Weightless twitch — 2/0 light wire, Texas rigged. Twitch, pause, let it hang.
• Shaky head — drag it to bottom and shake it in place. Tail stays standing.
• Carolina rig — the float keeps it riding up off the bottom behind your weight.
• Jig trailer — pin it on a flipping jig when you want extra glide on the fall.
